Put together a first aid kit especially for your iguana. Make sure you have all the necessary items on hand for possible emergencies and for regular care like toe nail trimming and shedding.
Liquid Anti-germicidal Soap...for cleaning hands (use HOT water!), first aid items, or feeding tubes...
Povidone Iodine (Betadine)...an antibacterial, anti-germicidal liquid for cuts, black spots, infections...A must-have!
Neosporin Cream, Silvadene Cream or Terramycin Cream...for cuts and infections...
Anti-fungicidal Cream...for black spots and other fungal infections...
Kwik-Stop Powder or Cornstarch...for closely cut nails to staunch (stop) bleeding...
Ben-A-Bak or Lactobacillus Acidophilus powder...naturally occurring bacteria, aids digestion...
Alcohol...for use if ig clamps onto you out of fear. Put a small amount (use q-tip) on mouth of ig to release grip. Because of the sharpness of an ig's teeth, never pull your finger or hand out of an ig's mouth that is clamped down...
Q-Tips...for applying cream and Betadine onto cuts or fungal spots, removing shed skin from delicate areas like around eyes...
Spray Bottle...for cleaning food or salts off face, to aid in shedding...
Feeding Syringe and Turkey Baster...for administering fluids and for use in force feeding when an ig is ill or to administer vitamins or medicines...
Tweezers...always have separate tools for your ig and for the family, for use in removing stubborn shed skin...
Aloe Vera...keep a plant handy for putting on wounds and in blended food for force-feeding...
Boric Acid Powder...mixed in a freshly-boiled water solution for cleaning eyes...
Water-Soluble Vitamin A and C...a drop can be used in boric acid solution (Vitamin A) and in blended food...
Nail Trimmer...for keeping nails short...
and a pair of Small Scissors...for general uses...
