PERFECT GROWTH
Meet Tweety and Big Daddy. They are wonderful examples of the proper
growth of a well-cared for iguana.
Tweety (on top) at eight months had a SVL (snout to vent length) of seven
inches. Big Daddy, at 10 months, had an SVL of nine inches.
At sixeen months, Tweety had reached 12 inches SVL and Big Daddy was
up to 13 inches SVL just eight months later. (not pictured)
These iguanas have just reached maturity at two and a half years. As
you can see, Big Daddy (on the tub) is huge at 11lbs., nineteen inches SVL
and, not to be outdone, his younger friend Tweety is now 14 lbs. with an
SVL of a whopping twenty inches. Anyone who owns an iguana can expect this
kind of growth in under three years.
These iguanas have reached five feet in length and will probably reach six
feet by complete maturity. The responsiblity of owning such a giant lizard
is immense when you consider that an iguana can live fifteen years or more.
Look carefully at the bottom pictures and make sure that if you want to
own a baby iguana, you are aware of what a big animal it will eventually
become.
